Saint John will play host to five premiers and six U.S. governors in September for a series of meetings.
The 43rd meeting of the Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers will be held Sept. 8 to 10.
More than 300 delegates will discuss things like energy grid modernization, cybersecurity, climate change adaptation, disaster mitigation, and key trade issues.
“We are excited to welcome the premiers and governors back to New Brunswick,” said Premier Blaine Higgs in a statement Wednesday.
“These meetings are important for developing strong relationships within our region that will help generate positive, long-term economic benefits.”
Opportunities NB will also co-ordinate a business-to-business program to facilitate meetings among the business delegates.
According to a news release, businesses will have a chance to discuss potential partnerships for trade, investment, research and other collaborations.
The conference was established in 1973 to recognize the special bond which exists between the six New England states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont and the five Eastern Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.
The annual event alternates from a Canadian to American host each year. New Brunswick last hosted it in 2009 in Saint John.
