The Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) has rendered its decision on NB Power’s latest rate application.
The utility applied for a range of rate increases earlier this year averaging 2.5 per cent.
It requested a 2.9 per cent hike for residents and a 1.7 per cent increase for commercial customers.
But in Tuesday’s decision, the EUB ordered the utility to calculate a uniform increase for all customers.
The board will review the revised increase before setting a time for it to take effect.
Board members also raised concerns about NB Power waiting until January to file its rate application.
The utility will now have to do it by early October so the board can make a decision by April 1.
