One person has been arrested after a police chase and collision in west Saint John.
Sgt. Greg Oram of the Saint John Police Force said they received a call about a possible impaired driver around 4 p.m. Friday.
Oram said officers tried to stop the vehicle on Highway 1 westbound, just past the Harbour Bridge, but the driver kept going at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle later crossed the median, causing another vehicle to roll over, before heading back eastbound on the highway, he said.
Oram said the vehicle took the Catherwood Street exit but left the road and hit a tree before the driver took off on foot.
He said officers scoured the area and, with help from the public, located a suspect in the Meadowland Subdivision around 5:20 p.m. Friday.
The suspect is facing charges of failing to stop for police and dangerous driving, and Oram said he may be linked to other investigations from outside Saint John.
Oram said he is not aware of any injuries.
The incident led to a heavy police presence in the area and traffic tie-ups during Friday afternoon’s rush hour.
