Speaking at a news conference on Sunday afternoon, Miramichi deputy police chief Brian Cummings said having to notify their families was “one of the saddest things” he has ever seen.
Cummings said he cannot remember a crash of this magnitude in the community involving this many young kids.
Police said speed and wet road conditions are believed to have been factors in the crash but there are “absolutely no indications” alcohol or drugs were involved.
Miramichi mayor Adam Lordon said the community will help each other heal and navigate this profound loss together.
