Anthony Capson has always dreamed of getting into public life.
So the NBCC Saint John electrical student is running in the Ward 3 municipal byelection.
Capson says one of the things he will do is fight for community centres in the ward.
“Right now, we have one community centre — Carleton Community Centre — and even that’s being co-opted,” said Capson. “The next step after co-op is gone and we can’t lose it.
Capson said he grew up in the ward and understands how important community centres are to the youth who live there.
He thinks growing up in the ward will set him apart from other candidates.
“I didn’t grow up on the rich side, I grew up in the poor side, which is the majority of the people in the ward,” Capson said. “Things that people not understand is what effects people on a daily level.”
Capson said he also wants to focus on drawing more manufacturing and trade jobs to the city.
Voters in Ward 3 will head to the polls on May 6.
