New Brunswick’s premier has taken his push for the Energy East pipeline to Saskatchewan.
Blaine Higgs was one of the speakers at a pro-pipeline rally in the province on Saturday.
Higgs says he thinks it is the start of a national initiative to bring back jobs and grow the economy.
“It sends a strong message to the federal government that our resources need to be put first,” said Higgs during a teleconference with reporters.
“We want to displace foreign oil, we want to have a national energy corridor through our country and get back on track with jobs and private-sector growth.”

Higgs has been a strong supporter of the Energy East pipeline, which would have carried Alberta crude to Saint John for export.
He believes the project could still go ahead if Canada develops a national energy corridor to transport natural resources across the country.
“We now have interest right from New Brunswick, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, and we need to work with Québec to have them help us,” Higgs said.
The premier was also asked by reporters what he would say to pipeline opponents about using taxpayer dollars to attend Saturday’s rally.
“I would actually think they would expect me to be doing this,” Higgs said.
“What would they prefer, that I don’t fight for New Brunswick interests, I don’t fight for Canadian interests, I basically sit in my office?”
