The New Brunswick Police Commission plans a review following a call for the removal of its Executive Director Steve Roberge after an investigation into former Saint John Deputy Police Chief Glen McCloskey’s conduct during the Richard Oland murder investigation.
McCloskey, who is now retired, was cleared of any wrongdoing following an investigation by Halifax Police but a police act investigation continued.
At a media conference in Saint John last week, Bob Davidson of the provincial police associated said Steve Roberge violated McCloskey’s privacy by releasing confidential documents to Dennis Oland’s defence lawyers.
In a statement, the Commission’s acting chair Lynn Chaplin says they started a strategic planning process to review how they conduct investigations.
The provincial commission has asked the Minister of Public Safety to appoint an independent third party to review allegations made by the New Brunswick Police Association on the Commission’s processes and procedures adding they will fully cooperate with the process.
Steve Roberge is no longer listed on the provincial police commission’s website and Jill Whalen is now listed as the acting executive director and CEO.
