Some residents in the Sussex area are being told to brace for potential flooding.
The town’s Emergency Measures Organization was activated Saturday morning following a “significant rise” in area river levels.
Officials said people living in low lying areas should take all necessary steps to secure their home and property.
That includes turning off basement furnaces and outside gas valves, as well as moving belongings to floors above ground level.
The rainfall warning from Environment Canada has ended but we are still expecting to see showers or drizzle for the rest of the day.
According to the unofficial totals from the weather agency, just over 41 millimetres had fallen in the Saint John area as of 12 p.m. Saturday while the St. Stephen area reported between 57 and 83 millimetres.
Mechanic Settlement, located between Penobsquis and Fundy National Park, picked up 92 millimetres, the most of any community in the province.
Forecasters were calling for as much as 75 millimetres along the Fundy coast and in southwestern regions by around noon Saturday.
Emergency officials are reminding people not to drive through flooded areas and to pay attention to any and all barricades which may be in place.
You should also clear out your gutters, as well as any catch basins or ditches around your property to reduce the risk of flooding.
