Quispamsis residents will see their property tax rate climb slightly in 2019.
Council approved the $24.9-million operating budget during a meeting on Tuesday night.
The tax rate will go up by 2.83 cents to $1.318 per $100 of assessed value.
Mayor Gary Clark said the town is facing higher expenses and a $350,000 cut in grant revenue from the province.
“For me, it’s to try and find a happy balance with the services that we provide and keeping a low tax rate,” Clark said.
Capital budget
$4.1 million has been set aside for capital projects in 2019, including $2.1 million for street paving and $180,000 for storm sewer improvements and traffic calming measures.
Clark said the town will also spend $185,000 to repair grub damage on its fields.
“The grubs did quite a number on the lawns and properties in the town and that affected our fields too,” he said.
Clark also noted council has done an amazing job at reducing the debt servicing cost, which now makes up 8.73 per cent of the total budget.
