The New Brunswick RCMP is using social media to remind people about the province’s “Move Over” law.
Several Mounties have shared their thoughts on what it is like to work on the side of the road.

Cpl. Jullie Rogers-Marsh, a media relations officer with the New Brunswick RCMP, said it is important for first responders to have a safe space to do their job.
“Whenever a motorist approaches an emergency vehicle stopped on the side of the road with emergency lights flashing, they must slow down and, if possible, move to the left,” Rogers-Marsh told our newsroom.
In addition to the social media campaign, officers conducted checkpoints last week and handed out cards to drivers reminding them about the law.

Even though the “Move Over” law has been in place for nearly six years, Rogers-Marsh said not everyone is obeying it.
“It certainly can be a little bit nerve-wracking or even scary at times if vehicles are zooming by and whizzing by and there isn’t enough space,” she said.
The fine for not slowing down and moving over for an emergency vehicle is $292.50 and three demerit points.
