Grade 5 students at Chris Saunders Memorial Elementary School in Quispamsis have been taking part in a program called Entrepreneurial Adventure through the Learning Partnership.
Bea Allen says her students have been learning how to run their own business while helping kids in need at the same time.
Allen says the kids have a “fire in their belly” and are very excited about developing a business, a product and more importantly being able to give back to kids in need by donating profits to the Canadian Cancer Society.
The kids have been making ‘Care Kits for Kids’, which include comfort items for kids while they undergo treatment for cancer.
Ryan Doiron says he’s really enjoyed the program and hopes he can start his own business one day that either helps those in need or the environment.
Dorion says the kits give kids comfort when they’re on the drive to the hospital, at the hospital or away from the hospital during treatments.
The kits include items like stuffed animals, head pillows, blankets, socks, colouring books, games, a water bottle and many more items.
Allen says the students decided to donate proceeds to the cancer society because there are two students at the school that have leukemia.
They are still looking for donations of items or money to help fill 20 kits.
Anyone who would like to donate can contact the school at 506-848-5425.
Chris Saunder Memorial Elementary School is also hosting a ‘Light the Night Walk’ on Friday, October 13th.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
