Diners, prepare your appetites because the winter edition of the Chop Chop restaurant week is now underway.
About two dozen restaurants in Saint John are taking part in the event which runs until Sunday.
One of those is Taste of Egypt at the top of King Street which is offering something different than its usual fare. While the restaurant normally features Mediterranean food they’re offering up North American fare for Chop Chop.
Paula Radwan of Taste of Egypt says that while we’ve had some Mediterranean food in the city for the last 30 or so years:
“People are still scared because although those restaurants have those items, they also have other more traditional foods too — so I think people thinking that they’re coming into a restaurant with a full Mediterranean menu — they’re a little bit timid,” she says.
“That has changed over the years though and it’s very rare now that we have people that tell me that they’re scared to try the food but I’ve had it happen a lot over the last five years.”
Executive chef and co-owner Ehab Radwan says that he loves the challenge and loves to do different cuisines to showcase his cooking skills.
For their Chop Chop dinner, they’re offering a first course of deep fried potato croquettes, a second course of baked chicken and mixed vegetables, and for a third course they’re offering an Egyptian orange cake.
