It’s the time of year when a lot of people are in the giving spirit and want to support various charities.
Before you donate, there’s some things you should keep in mind.
Andrew Holland with the Nature Conservancy of Canada says before you give, it’s a good idea to do some research.
Holland says MoneySense Magazine publishes a list annually of the top 100 charities in the country and evaluates them in four different categories.
The four categories include charity efficiency, fundraising costs, governance & transparency and cash reserves.
Holland says it’s important for people to know that the charity they plan on supporting will use their money for the right purposes to ensure their donation is making a direct impact.
He says December is the most popular month when people tend to donate to at least one charitable organization.
The Nature Conservancy of Canada was named the top environmental charity in the country for the 7th year in a row.
