A big surprise at Police Commission with the announcement that Police Chief Bill Reid will be retiring in April. Reid says the time is right for a change at the top with a new strategic plan having to be formulated.
Reid is proudest of the drop in the city’s crime rate and the high level of satisfaction with how the police department is doing its job among Saint Johnners according to the latest Ipsos-Reid poll. Reid has spent 37 years with City Police, the last 7 as chief.
Another senior officer, Inspector Cy Thompson is also retiring and Nicole Paquet will take over as chair of the Police Commission from Jonathon Franklin.
