As we celebrate Canada's anniversary this weekend, it's important to remember how much the country has changed over the past 150 years.
Mount Allison University Canadian Studies professor Andrew Nurse says national pride has evolved along with the country over the generations.
"The country that my parents or my grandparents were proud of is not the country that my daughter is growing up in and sometimes it's difficult to have that conversation," he notes.
Nurse says the Canada of today is much more progressive and forward-thinking which may be at odds with how older generations have perceived the country.
He adds if we were to sit down and make up a list of things to be proud of, it would surely not include the treatment of aboriginal people but it might contain the acceptance of refugees and linguistic diversity.
