The People’s Alliance of New Brunswick have made history in this provincial election, winning three seats in the legislature.
Leader Kris Austin has been declared the winner in Fredericton-Grand Lake, defeating Progressive Conservative incumbent Pam Lynch by 2,366 votes.
After his victory, Austin told our newsroom his party worked hard for a long time to see this come to fruition.
Austin said it is a great feeling to win, but also somewhat bittersweet.
“As proud as you are to win the seats that we’ve won, there’s a lot of good candidates out there that fell short,” Austin said. “It’s unfortunate, but we’re a team and I just look forward to what the coming days have to offer.”

Michelle Conroy beat Liberal incumbent Bill Fraser in Miramichi by 963 votes and Rick Desaulniers defeated PC incumbent Kirk MacDonald in Fredericton-York by 256 votes.
In Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin, People’s Alliance candidate Art O’Donnell lost to PC incumbent Jake Stewart by 35 votes.
Since this is the first minority government is nearly 100 years, we asked Austin if he would be willing to work with other parties.
“What we’ve said all along is we’re willing to work with any party that’s willing to work with us,” he said. “Minority governments are about compromise, they’re about negotiations, it’s about give and take.”
