Rothesay Council has approved the rezoning of 7 Hillcrest Drive, which will allow higher density housing to be built in the town.
Mayor Nancy Grant says the town needs more housing, but especially for seniors.
Grant says she’s very happy the development has come to pass.
The development will see 58 condominiums built at the corner of Hampton Road.
It will include five garden homes with two units in each and two buildings, each with 24 condos.
Councillor Bill McGuire says it’s been a long time coming, but says council did its due diligence.
McGuire says he can’t wait to see ground broken.
Councillor Don Shea admits this issue probably should have been solved months ago, but thinks it’s a great project for the town.
Shea calls it a starting point for similar developments in the future.
Developer Andrew McKay of A.E. McKay Builders says the project will enhance the neighbourhood.
He says he’s already heard from 47 people who are interested in buying and that’s without any marketing of the project.
