The provincial government is providing an increase in funding for the 13 transition houses in the province which are safe havens for women and children who are fleeing a domestic abuse situation.
The 2018-19 budget for transition homes will climb to just over 3.3 million dollars from the current 2.97 million dollars.
The provincial Families and Children Minister Stephen Horsman says the province is providing additional funding so each transition house will be able to hire a child support worker.
"Children and youth are often caught in a situation between their parents or parental figures. Child support workers help children and youth feel safe and to understand they are not to blame" says Horsman.
