In the Major League playoffs, the New York Yankees staved off elimination for the fourth time in the postseason, winning 5-2 over Cleveland to advance against the Houston Astros. Didi Gregorius hit two homers for the Yankees.......Washington tied its series against the Chicago Cubs with a 5-0 win as Steven Strasberg threw 7 shutout innings and Micheal Taylor hit a grand slam homer off Cubs' closer Wade Davis. The deciding game of the series will be played tonight in Washington.

The Boston Red Sox fired their manager John Farrell after losing their playoff series in four games to Houston.

In the NHL, the unbeaten New Jersey Devils beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, who lost for the first time this season, 6-3. Cory Schneider made 47 saves for the Devils......It was Colorado over Boston 6-3 for the second time in three days......Pittsburgh got by Washington 3-2 with Patric Hornqvist scoring a power play goal and adding an assist in his first game of the season.....In other play, it was Anaheim 3 the New York Islanders 2 and Calgary over Los Angeles in overtime 4-3.

The Harbour View High Junior Varsity girls soccer team defeated Kennebecasis Valley High 4-1 in a shootout in the playoffs........The Saint John High Junior Varsity girls soccer team downed St. Malachy's 2-1 and will now be moving into the regionals.
