The Swallow Tail Lighthouse on Grand Manan Island is the scene of a michief case that has police very concerned.

RCMP say sometime between August 17th and August 20th, 2017, someone tampered with a winch cable, which is used to lift heavy loads adjacent to a flight of stairs leading to the lighthouse at 50 Lighthouse Road.

On August 20th, the cable snapped under load, sending a load weighing approximately three hundred pounds down a steep incline, narrowly missing several people on the stairs and bridge.

Police say no one was seriously injured, but the potential for serious injury was high, and upon close inspection, the cable was found to be cut cleanly through and was not the result from normal wear.
