A retired C-F-L player Shea Emry spends his time these days talking about the pressures of being an alpha male and how dangerous that is to your mental health.
Emry talked about men’s mental health at the Bell Aliant Golf Classic in Rothesay. He admits to being one of those alpha males during his football career and says he had to take stock to get his life in order. Emry says he speaks from personal experience on pro sports and his message is “be yourself” and don’t bottle things up.
Emry says he was abused as a child and suffered concussions as a football player and admits when his career ended, he struggled with his identity.
Emry says he likes to be physically active and feels alive when he’s engaged in the outdoors.
