The medical school partnership between Universite de Moncton, the University of Sherbrooke and the province has been renewed for at least the next five years.
The announcement was made Tuesday at the New Brunswick Medical Training Centre on the U de M campus.
U de M president Raymond Theberge says having a francophone med school program in New Brunswick allows Acadians to study close to where they’re from.
He says it’s basically increased dramatically the number of doctors that go back home which he says is a big deal in a province that is quite rural.
Theberge says the program has grown substantially since it began in 2006 to the point they’re beginning to increase research capacity and develop their simulation centre.
The school has trained 49 per cent of francophone family physicians in the province.
