The provincial government is being called on to make roads safer for cyclists in New Brunswick. This follows the tragic death this week of international cyclist Ellen Watters in Sussex.
Rallies will be held Sunday afternoon in Moncton and Saint John where letters and petitions will be circulated.
Holly McKay says legislation is needed because right now there are no regulations in place. "Ellen's Law" would stipulate drivers stay at least a metre away from cyclists on roadways. She points out cyclists are not allowed to ride on sidewalks so they have to share the rioad with motorised vehicles.
Saint John supporters of "Ellen's Law" will proceed Sunday afternoon from Prince Edward Square Mall down King Street to City Hall.
