Canada, reportedly, is demanding the U.S. end “Right to Work” laws which are seen as a way to diminish the power of labour unions as part of the NAFTA negotiations. U.S. President Donald Trump has said Canada is being very difficult in the talks.
A senior economist with the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, Fred Bergman says a key industry in the Atlantic region will be the focus of some of the discussions, Bergman says sea food will be a major issue with questions like where did the fish come from? was it subject to any subsidy? etc.
Trump suggested NAFTA be terminated but Quebec Premier Phillipe Couillard has countered that by saying the American governors he has talked to are eager to modernize and improve the agreement.
