Calls to broaden proposed domestic and intimate partner violence leave in New Brunswick appear to have been heard.
The province first announced plans to allow people experiencing domestic or intimate partner violence to take leaves from work last month “to make a life change to enhance their safety and security.”
At the time, the New Brunswick Women’s Council told us the proposed changes should also include sexual violence, so survivors of violence committed by acquaintances or strangers would also be eligible.
The bill was officially introduced on Friday and was amended to include sexual violence leave.
Labour Minister Gilles LePage says in a statement ensuring job protection for those who need to leave work to take care of themselves contributes to a healthy workforce.
The province will gather feedback on the proposed changes over the next two months.
