No charges after a bench-clearing brawl between two players near the end of the Saint John Rip Tide game against the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans at Harbour Station.
Saint John police say after things settled down a bit, the Rip Tide players were told to go back to their dressing room first – but they didn’t, they ended up hanging around underneath the bleachers waiting for the other other team to leave the floor.
Officers who were working security at the game told them to leave and escorted the Kitchener-Waterloo players to their dressing room.
Police remained on scene until the visiting team got on their bus and left.
Two Kitchener-Waterloo Titans have been ‘indefinitely’ suspended by the team: Kevin Foster and Tramique Sutherland.
“In no way, does KW condone this behavior and as a result we are taking immediate action. We apologize to our fans. We will wait for further sanctions from the National Basketball League of Canada. This is not what the KW Titans organization is about,” a statement posted on the team’s website reads.
We have reached out to the Rip Tide for comment.
No one was hurt in the altercation.
The game score was 121-99 for the Rip Tide.
