One of the more common scams popping up recently relates to lottery fraud.
That’s according to the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, who says on any given day, there are a variety of scams targeting players.
The latest lottery fraud is an email claiming your email address was randomly picked as a winner of a large amount of US dollars.
The targets are urged to contact a fake ALC prize agent and are asked to provide personal and financial details.
If you’re in doubt about a possible win, you should reach out to ALC to verify any information about a possible win.
Here are some tips to help you identify lottery scams.
It’s a scam if…
•You did not buy a ticket or submit an entry.
•You have never heard of the particular game or contest/promotion.
•You are asked to pay money up front for fees or taxes in order to release your “win.”
•You are told you must reply within a given time or the money will be given to someone else.
•You are asked to provide personal and financial information by phone or email.
•The email looks suspicious: spelling mistakes, offshore contact information, prizes listed in foreign currency, misshapen or distorted Atlantic Lottery logo.
