NB Signs Fourth Company To Supply Recreational Cannabis

The New Brunswick government has secured a fourth company to supply the recreational cannabis market once it is legalized in July.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed with Toronto-based Nuuvera Inc. to supply 2.5 million grams of cannabis and related products for the province.

The international company will also set up a state-of-the-art lab in Saint John to process, manufacture and distribute medical marijuana products.\

Three other producers: Canopy Growth Corp., Zenabis and Moncton-based Organigram have also inked supply deals.

Grand Manan Home Gutted By Fire

A fire in North Head on Grand Manan has gutted a home.

That from the Canadian Red Cross which says the fire was reported just after 11am on Sunday at 143 Highway 776.

A couple and their four-year-old son were not home at the time of the blaze so nobody was hurt.

They're staying with a relative and disaster volunteers with the Red Cross are helping out with emergency purchases like clothing and food.

The Red Cross also helped out after a furnace oil leak in a home in Mill Brook.

RCMP Trying To Solve Theft Of Tools & Equipment

RCMP need help in solving the theft of more than $200,000 worth of tools and equipment in Albert County.

Sometime early Friday between 3 and 6am, a Snap-On Tool truck loaded with auto mechanic tools and equipment was stolen from a home on Highway 114 in Stoney Creek.

The truck was later found in Parkindale but the tools and equipment were gone.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Riverview RCMP detachment at 506-387-2222.

UPDATED: House Fire In Quinton Heights Claims Lives Of 12 Animals

12 animals have died in a house fire in west Saint John.

Platoon chief Todd Walsh of the city fire department says when crews arrived to the home on Fenton Drive which is located in Quinton Heights they found heavy smoke coming from the back right corner of the building and some fire was found in the attic which they were able to knock down fairly quickly.

He tells us four dogs, five cats, two rabbits and a lizard all perished.

"Crews actually did CPR on the animals as best they could," says Walsh, "unfortunately we were only able to save two cats."

Situation 'Pretty Much Stable' After Latest Storm, EMO Says

The latest storm to hammer our region brought evacuations, road washouts, power outages and more but the current situation is described as pretty much stable.

That's according to Robert Duguay of the New Brunswick Emergency Measure Organization who says that they are still watching a few isolated cases in Miramichi and in Charlotte County where there's still some concern about the water levels.

RCMP Seek Two Suspects In Shooting & Home Invasion

Two suspects are being sought by police following a violent home invasion and a shooting on Esgenoôpetitj (Burnt Church) First Nation.

Around 2 o'clock Monday morning, RCMP were called to a home on Bayview Drive in the community after a report of two men wearing masks.

Police say a 23-year-old man had been shot in the leg once they arrived.

The man was taken to hospital in Bathurst with serious injuries.

NAFTA Is Critically Important To Canada

It's possible that the next round of talks on the North American Free Trade Agreement could be even more intense.  

They are set to begin in Montreal on the 23rd.

Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long says NAFTA is a non-partisan issue.

He says both sides of the house recognize that NAFTA goes beyond being a Liberal or Conservative issue.

Long was we are dealing with an era in the United States where protectionism is rearing its ugly head.

Latest Millionaire Receives Cheque In Summerside, PEI

Atlantic Canada has its latest millionaire.

Eric Gerlund was presented a cheque by the Atlantic Lottery Corporation in Summerside today....

A million dollar win after matching all six numbers in last Wednesdays Atlantic 49 draw...

Gerlund says he checked the numbers of the computer several times before he finally realised he has won, "I looked at the numbers on the computer and thought maybe I won $10.  I eventually went back to check the numbers again, and when I did, I thought, Holy Lord, I couldn't believe it."

Police Issue Tickets A Plenty In Blacks Harbour

According to the amount of tickets, no one in Blacks Harbour was expecting a police checkstop.

St. George RCMP, along with help from the New Brunswick Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit of the Inspection and Enforcement Branch, conducted two check stops on Thursday, January 11th, on Main Street in Blacks Harbour. More than three hundred vehicles were checked in the two and a half hour period.

Police say they issued ten tickets to drivers for not having their vehicle inspected or not having their vehicle registered.
