NB EMO Urges Everyone To Be "72-Hours Ready"

Let's face it... most of us are likely not prepared if an emergency happens in our community and help doesn't arrive for days.

The New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) is reminding us to be "72-hours ready" to ensure you have everything you need until help arrives.

EMO says there are three important components.

Number one is to know the risks involved depending on the type of emergency whether it be a power failure, natural disaster or other event.

Number two is making a plan for the entire family so everyone knows what to do.

A man from South Carolina is determined to ensure actress Betty White makes it to 2017.

White will turn 95 in January, and with the number of celebrities who have passed in 2016.     Demetrios Hrysikos decided to do something to make sure White's name wasn't added to the list.

He launched a Go Fund Me page with the initial goal of $2,000, and stated, "If she is okay with it, I will fly to wherever Betty White is, and keep her safe until January 1st of 2017."

If you struggle to maintain New Year's resolutions, you're not alone.

Psychologist Dr. Michael Vallis says that's because most people are going about it the wrong way.

Vallis says the reasons why people choose a certain goal is setting them up for failure.

"They primary driver to a New Year's resolution is someone feel bad about something. The motivation is get out of a bad situation and into a good one. We call that 'escape behavior."

Poll Shows Canadians Want Prime Minister Trudeau To Stand Up To Donald Trump

A poll released by Nanos Research has found three in four Canadians agree or somewhat agree that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should stand up to the incoming U.S. President Donald Trump as the champion of progressive values even if it strains Canada-US relations.

The same poll reveals 77 per cent of Canadians think Trudeau should invite Trump to first visit Canada while16 per cent are opposed.

Poll Reveals We're Not Doing Enough To Control Our Spending

A CIBC poll has discovered nearly half of us aren’t doing enough to achieve our financial priorities.

The polling found repaying debt was the top financial priority with the biggest concerns being credit cards and lines of credit.

Keeping up with bills was the second highest priority followed by growing investments.

48 per cent of respondents said they didn’t plan to cut back their spending on non-essential items.

Strong Winds A Concern As Storm Approaches

We're not going to get much snow in Saint John from the latest storm but Environment Canada is warning about damaging winds that  will accompany an intensifying low pressure system from the southwest today.

Strong southeasterly winds, occasionally gusting to 90 kilometers an hour, will develop along the Fundy coast tonight ahead of the low.

After the low passes early tomorrow morning, winds along the coast will shift to the southwest but remain strong before diminishing near midday.

Debbie Reynolds Dies One Day After Her Daughter

Just one day after her daughter, Carrie Fisher passed away, legendary actress Debbie Reynolds died at the age of 84 after reportedly suffering a stroke.

Her son, Todd Fisher is quoted as saying his mother wanted to be with Carrie who died after suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles and the stress of Fisher's death proved to be too much.

In her time on the screen, Reynolds was a big star in movies which included "Singin' in the Rain" and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown".

In the NHL, Tyler Johnson scored his second goal of the game at 1:36 of overtime as Tampa Bay rallied from a two goal deficit in the third period to edge Montreal 4-3....Mitchell Marner scored in the third round of the shootout in Toronto's 3-2 win over Florida.....Sidney Crosby scored his league leading 26th goal in his 31st game and moved into a tie with Edmonton's Connor McDavid for the scoring lead at 42 points in Pittsburgh's 3-2 win over Carolina.....St. Louis got 4 goals in the third period for a 6-3 win over Philadelphia and Vancouver got by Los Angeles 2-1.
